19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former coach Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
